Each day in the post-Michael Jackson world brings news of his secrets and final moments during life. A life, painted by the media, as dark, eccentric, troubled. But what we really should be remembering is what he contributed to the world as the King of Pop. Of all popular performers, did anyone draw more affection from his fans?
In his death, Jackson achieved what he'd always wanted in life. Less "Wacko Jacko;" he was simply a man who was a perfect dancer, a perfect singer, a genius songwriter. He became an immortal. He dominated the top of the charts once again.
Think about Michael Jackson's standard. If we all did one thing as well as Michael Jackson danced and sang, think about how beautiful it would be. Whether we are cognizant or not of this simple truth, we are attracted to his performances because they were perfect.
At home, people have gotten out their records and are playing and dancing. Musicians are incorporating Michael Jackson covers into their sets. Are they acknowledging the loss of an artist, or the contribution of one humanitarian? Both.
(In the days following Mr. Jackson's death, I listened to his music on satellite radio. One day in particular, I went for a walk in an unfamiliar part of town. I heard music in the distance:
It was the chorus of "Man in the Mirror.")

More Rock, Less Talk
I went to a show last weekend. Entertainment unlike any show I've attended.
The singer took the liberty to share his thoughts on the president, the war, the upcoming election. After the political outburst, the concert ended.
Music, like all art, is for self-expression. Be leery of any celebrity, actor or musician, who attempts to influence your vote after the music has ended.
